"Emotion always has its roots in the unconscious and manifests itself in the body."
– Irene Claremont de Castillejo
Most of us have heard or are curious about chakras due to the recent mindful movement. However, there are still some of us who have not heard about them at all or are not educated about what chakras are.
What are chakras?
The chakras are the energy centers of the body that keep the mind, body, and spirit in balance with each other. The word “chakra” means wheel in Sanskrit, deriving from the ancient Indian culture. Put simply, when the energies of the body are in balance, the chakras are open, allowing us to function as our highest selves. Similarly, when the body is out of balance, the chakras are closed and we become erratic, stressed, and out of tune with ourselves.
Are chakras real?
The existence of chakras has been debated for decades, much of this debate was sparked due to our inability to see or touch chakras, as they are metaphysical. However, a study conducted by Konstantin Korotkov, a professor at the University of The St. Petersburg Federal University of Informational Technologies, Optics, and Mechanics in Russia, created device called GVC, a technology that measures bio-energy through a metaphysical analysis. The machine sends electrical currents through the finger tips, which are connected to the main energy points in the body (or chakras) and express themselves as light photons. The glow from the energy is captured by a CCD camera and transferred to a computer. Each energy point glows at a different level depending on its frequency. For example, if we are examining someone’s heart chakra and the energy field around it is weak, then that person needs to give it more attention by increasing its frequency. Although this information has recently surfaced more, the GVC isn’t new and is modeled after an ancient Chinese system of energy meridians for measuring the bio-energy of all living organisms and the environment.
“Go with the wind, you know, like a sailboat. I think that’s really important when it comes to peace… inner peace especially. You can’t help anyone else if you don’t have it together for yourself.”

How do you align your chakras?
The chakras fall out of balance due to various reasons, most of which stem from negative energy and a lack of love for the self and humanity. Each chakra has unique properties and is affected by different factors, thus there is a need for total body awareness in order to pin point where the blockage is coming from. Total body awareness can be accomplished through meditation. (see. 7 Reasons Why Everyone Needs to Meditate).
Before one embarks on the journey to alignment and spiritual elevation, it is essential to learn the basics about chakras and their many characteristics.
