“Meditate, Visualize and Create your own reality and the universe will simply reflect back to you.”
– Amit Ray
There are so many ideas and explanations about the meaning of meditation, but luckily the answer is simple. To put your mind at ease, meditation is not controlling your thoughts or not thinking at all. The mind is a machine that works around the clock, with or without our consent. It is impossible to stop the mind from fulfilling its true nature.
“Meditation is the discovery that the point of life is always arrived at in the immediate moment.”
– Alan Watts
So what is Meditation? Meditation is introspection, self awareness, and the state of neutrality. To meditate is to become the observer of yourself from a higher state of consciousness. Meditation is the art of understanding your mind with your mind and entering total body consciousness. It is becoming aware of yourself, through yourself and without judgment. Prominent individuals like Deepok Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, Miguel, Steve Jobs, and Jim Carry practice meditation.
“Who is it that’s aware that I’m thinking?”
– Jim Carrey
Although the obvious benefit of meditation is to relax, but why should everyone meditate? What can we truly gain? Isn’t this a waste of time? WRONG. There are endless reasons why everyone should meditate, but I have narrowed it down to 7.
Here are the 7 reasons why everyone needs to meditate.
Reason 1: Improves immune system.
This study observed meditators and non meditators in an 8 week course. People who practiced mindful meditation on a daily basis had more antibodies than before and compared to those who did not meditate. How can this be you must ask? Your immune system is connected to your brain function, which sends messages to your body to fight off illness. Practicing meditation raises your body’s frequency and causes you to literally send off positive electrical signals, which has a profound effect on your health.
Reason 2: Decreases anxiety and depression

Anxiety is caused by nervous tissue in your brain called the amygdala, located in the temporal lobe. This section of the brain deals with fear, depression, and survival instincts (aka anxiety). A study showed after 8 weeks of practicing mindful meditation, the size of the amygdala shrunk in the focus group. Some of you reading this may not struggle with anxiety or depression, but stress also becomes easier to manage through meditation.
Reason 3: Increases sex drive

Sex – just saying it makes your senses tingle, right? Well, believe it or not, meditation improves your sex life in two ways. Number one is that your level of stress decreases and your energy level is heightened, causing you to be more excited in the bedroom. Practicing meditation literally raises your vibration and gives you more vitality by increasing your ability to rest. The second way is that meditation brings you to the present moment, the only place life happens. Sex is one of the most grounding experiences that exists. You are fully present during sex (good or bad) and all of your senses are at its peak. However, when your mind is scattered and overthinking, it is impossible to be fully present and enjoy yourself during sexual activity.
Reason 4: Improves concentration
Not only does meditation increase your ability to concentrate, but the muscles in your brain literally transforms as a result of meditation. Meditation opens the gates to your real source of energy and power. A Harvard study showed increased concentration in grey matter in those who meditated, containing most of the neuronal cells responsible for self control, memory, and speech. Although multi-tasking is frowned upon by many, the concentration gained from meditation increases this ability as well, allowing you to tap into your limitless potential.
Reason 5: Increases happiness

Too many people associate happiness with external entities, such as material possessions, their business, a car, or another human being. Real happiness is not dependent on physical objects from the material world; happiness comes from within. Meditation reconnects your mind to your spirit, transcending the ideas of happiness that have been pushed onto us. Several studies have shown increased signals on the left side of the brain, which is responsible for positive emotions, while activity on the right side that is responsible for negative emotions decreased.
Reason 6: Slows down aging
BUT HOW? Well, meditation promotes a higher well being, resulting in the body’s increased ability to produce telomerase activity. Increased telomerase activity produces longer telomeres, resulting in heightened growth of cells. Aging is related to a decrease in cell production. The moment someone passes due to old age is when cell production stops. Thus, an increased amount of cell production decreases our aging and the looks of it. Pretty cool, right?
Reason 7: Creates peace of mind

A few things everyone wants in life are happiness, money, and a peace of mind. Meditation places your consciousness in the position to achieve two of these things. A peace of mind is difficult to achieve in the world we live in. We are constantly hit by waves of hate, greed, noise, and chaos. We are constantly reminded of all the evil in the world and are bombarded by awful news on the television. However, we posses the energy to transcend these entities. Meditation recovers a long lost memory, the memory of infinite wisdom and energy that resides within us all. When we begin the journey inward, we not only create a peace of mind, but we discover the universe inside ourselves and the limitless potential of all things.
